poetry workshop where the exercise was to choose one of a set of baffling motivational posters and turn it into a poem. i picked this one & ended up with the following:
the afternoon has stretched from its jar and you know it’s coming
a mineral chime, the stillness opening wide and putting
out enormous leaves. NOW. somewhere there’s a vein that carries the current that you need to catch. you watch and watch.
the house you keep yawns holes in the night and when you look
the shadows can barely stand the white and when you drown
in your dreams the water is dazzling, fizzy and so clean.
