apparently part of the midterm exam will involve generating text using an LLM and then... replying to it??? In some way??

This is an environmental studies class btw
Why not have each student just leave an SUV idling for the duration of the exam? It would be exactly as instructive anyway

professor was actually very cool about it, did not dock my grade (It helps that I made it my Mission to ace the rest of the exam/course out of spite) and reached out to me to talk about it

very happy to see the professor responding well. i think itโ€™s easy to forget how uncritically even intelligent people approach technology so itโ€™s important to take stands like this so the issue can be addressed. hoping they just had no idea about the environmental impact (ignoring the myriad of other issues)

Yeah, if I look at this without my immediate emotional reaction, I don't actually blame any faculty for not knowing because... it's not their job or their area of specialization? (except for tech-related disciplines I guess)

I am more pissed at the admin for not having a coherent policy in place and not having a specialist explain how LLMs work in an accessible way to the faculty and other staff. It really looks like they kind of left every instructor to figure it out themselves.
