After @clarknovalis’ recommendation, I started reading Fictions. I finished the first two short ā€œstoriesā€ (?) and I’m honestly blown away by how modern these ideas are - or probably post-modern is the correct phrase. And how influential they feel! I’m immediately reminded of Umberto Eco and his invented histories, Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities and weirdly Hellraiser for that ā€˜eastern’-esque impossible object. I’m pretty inspired by these two stories, so if you ever see me writing about a game which you’ve never heard of, it’s probably made up lol

Periodic reminder for everyone to read Borges because it rules and it's fun.

Hellraiser is not a connection I would have made on my own but you know what? I see it.

Also, Borges would have loved his stories referred to as "stories" (?) :eggbug-relieved:

Really glad you're liking it! Tlƶn, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is probably my favorite singular piece of fiction ever, but you owe to yourself to read the collection in its entirety. It's a little labyrinth in itself ;)

At the end of high school I started a serious reading of Borges, Calvino, Eco, Queneau and all the combinatory literature. It was a significant moment in my education and something that still informs my very character.

Have you read The House of Asterion then? Every time I come back to it I cannot help but shedding a tear. Lemme know what you think of all of this! Good read :)

Hi sorry I forgot to reply to your comment! I did read Asterion which convinced me to dive into this collection :) Asterion is beautiful, I love it! In a way I wish I’d read these sooner as they’re cleary really influential, however they’re so much fun to read right now that I’m not really that sad lol.

I love the one about the writer who’s writing Don Quixote for the first time again. Haha it’s so clever! Thanks again for putting me onto Borges, he very much up my alley :)
