daily knowledge: you've probably heard of peanut butter. but have you ever heard of "all natural" peanut butter? at almost every supermarket, you can buy either peanut butter or all natural peanut butter, with the former having hydrogenated vegetable oil included to give the product a consistent, shelf stable texture, whereas all natural peanut butter does not include anything other than peanuts (and maybe salt or sugar too). the lack of a stabilizer allows the peanut oil to separate out of the product when left alone, leaving it up to the buyer to mix it back in or remove it as they see fit.

when i was 23 a friend of mine stayed the night in my apartment. when i woke up he informed me that he saw that my peanut butter had some kind of oil floating on top so he dumped it out for me! maybe that meant it was bad and i should throw it out tho

it was a new jar of the good pb :eggbug-sob: i got a couple sammiches out of it but most of it congealed into a brick of peanut gunk after a couple days. i was so sad

get all natural pb if you like peanut butter and can afford to spend more for the healthier option! it's really delicious!! but please don't dump out the peanut oil just mix it in for my sake idk why you'd do that :eggbug-tuesday:

the oil is what makes it a butter, otherwise you just got peanut!

if i stir it back in it's basically all liquid so what i do is clean out an empty jar and store the oil it. the peanut butter at the bottom of the jar usually has very little oil still retained compared to the top, so i pour it back in once i get there.
