so I moved to the US in 2016 and suddenly I started living in my second language. Most of my communication is in English and has been for years.
I decided to start learning ASL....it's been a while since I've started learning a language from zero and it's the first time I'm learning a different language without all the instruction being done in my first language.
You know that thing when you can't think of the correct word in whatever language you're trying to learn so your brain helpfully offers a word in a different language you've learned because "huh this is Not First Language, must be This Other Language We Know"
Yeah I started doing that with Spanish at some point in the last 8 years, my brain started to treat English as my first language and Spanish as my second language. Which is weird and kind of a cool example of neuroplasticity and such... but it's also kinda heartbreaking.
Anyway I'm still working on an essay about A Memory Called Empire, no relation
