If you've been to Chicago, the weirdness of this photo is perhaps obvious. This is the Cloud Gate (also usually just called The Bean) located in Chicago. It's a massive tourist attraction, and so during all daytime hours it's usually completely surrounded by people. Even paintings of the thing show it surrounded by people.
I was having a conversation with someone last night about how weird 2020 actually was, and now that we're getting to be a few years removed from it, the memories are starting to get swept under the rug as we reacclimate to "normal" life again. In August of 2020, I had to travel to Chicago for work. One of my favorite cities in general, I used to visit all the time when I lived in Minneapolis but I haven't been there much since I moved to Seattle. Naturally, everything was still pretty closed off. But this was the most surreal of all. Such a popular tourist attraction, usually completely packed full of people trying to take selfies in it. It makes sense they roped it off. So I had to take a photo, and now I'm glad that I did. To capture that absolutely bizarre moment in time, something we'll hopefully never have to experience again.
