Couple of weeks ago I pulled out a bunch of invasive horseweed from a nearby natural area. It was very late summer so most plants had gone to seed, but the native goldenrod was still in bloom and so was the horseweed.

And there was this patch of beautiful goldenrod just covered in bees. I took a terrible picture of one but there were dozens. Just a whole bunch of little guys grateful for the flower oasis among the grasses.

And right next to that patch, a bunch of also blooming horseweed. With zero bees around. Zero bugs, actually. Just the tiny cute white flowers, lonely as hell.

Anyway pulled those suckers up and hopefully the goldenrod will have more space next year. Or we may try to plant other natives, who knows.

(Also there were a lot of bugs flying over the grass because there was a falcon of some kind swooping around so all the bug-eating birds were hiding. Unrelated to the rest of this post, but I got so many bugs bites)
