So my car crash had some unexpected side effects, like a 2 month long tummy ache with pain reaching a 10 periodically and an inability to eat normally.
We think it was 3 different things that happened one after another, first an infection which we treated, then an ulcer caused by the infection which we treated, then a bowel obstruction caused by the ulcer treatment which is what im in for now.
If this doesnt end soon i might actually die, bright side though? We know for sure what it is this time, and they seem like they might actually stick to fixing it until its actually... You know... Fixed.
Surgeon just came in, they are going to cut me open, remove a segment of pissed off intestine, rejoin the healthy bits, then sew me back up.
I didnt expect something so invasive so fast but apparently the bowel obstruction isnt a mass, its a piece of intestine thats been enflamed for months likely because of my crash.
I should be able to be up and around in a few days afterwards. If the worst happens... Ill instruct my partners to make that known here, but i doubt thats going to happen (ive never had surgery before)
I survived surgery, i feel awful, disoriented, overheated... So much pain....
They tried giving me morphine for post-op pain but it did nothing at all, so they gave me like, super morphine thats 8 times stronger, which also did very little until they gave me the max dose.
Im freaking out my doctors and nurses again.
they decided to give me an ultra anti-inflammatory and its awesome. It doesnt get me high, so no queasiness, i may be able to like... Eat my hospital jello now
They are gonna try solid foods on me today, if i tolerate them well and my intestines dont do any breakdancing moves ill be discharged tomorrow
Im at home now, im healing up fine, solid foods are working out just fine.
Had 3 different narcotics in the hospital and i hated all of them except fentanyl, that actually felt kinda nice. But all and all not into opioids.
Also im tougher than cops because i was able to exist in the same post code as fentanyl without having an infarction.
I had morphine, dilaudid, and fentanyl, and eventually they gave me toradol which is just an anti-inflammatory, they were expecting me to want to stay on the narcotics but the toradol got rid of the pain so effectively i didnt see the need.
In 2 weeks i get the staples removed from my tummy.
Ok so update, ive got either a bowel obstruction or a basically psuedo obstruction where, after a bowel surgery the intestines will work fine, just just get pissed off and stop working, backing up the GI tract. This typically resolves itself so they are gonna keep me here to make absolutely sure its not something else.
Side note, they fed a tube down my throat to essentially pump all my stomach contents out constantly to relieve pressure, and it has to stay there for at least 24 hours...
Found out what was so wrong with my intestine that they had to remove some of it; fucking necrosis.
"GROSS DESCRIPTION:
A. The specimen, labeled and designated "Carter, jejunum," is received in formalin and consists of a 20.8 cm length of small bowel with attached mesentery, up to 5.2 cm in thickness. The serosal
surface is red, hemorrhagic, and dusky. The mesentery is also hemorrhagic and dusky. Opening reveals red, ulcerated mucosa, centrally, consuming over 80% of the mucosa. It is 3.5 cm to the first
margin and 2.4 cm to the second margin. The mesentery is sectioned to reveal a yellow, lobulated, fatty cut surface. Representative sections are submitted in cassettes A1-A6."
What the hell.
The tube in my throat is gone, and i got to eat something. I feel much better and i may be released tomorrow or the next day.
And i can pin the necrotic organ tissue on the crash, which means i can add it to the car insurance special damages bill.
Im recovering for real i think.
