Once upon a time, there was a dark god, of hunger and thirst. It wasnt a dark god like the kinds you hear about in church, cloven feet and diabolical plans, or a hungry god like a ravenous one who consumed its followers or fellow gods. This god had no followers, and it consumed light wherever it appeared. A flash here, a nebula there, anything that emitted light would eventually go out, for only darkness is forever.
It enjoyed the pretty lights, it wanted to make them part of itself, its governing nature being hunger and thirst, presiding over a force so primordial that even gravity partook, from stray amino and nucleic acids forming in the vacuum if space to black holes consuming entire stars. Everything feeds, adds other things to itself to not only sustain themselves but to increase their power.
It eventually wandered to a corner of reality that housed many bright lights. The intrigued godling drifted to see the bright and prismatic lights, finding galaxies, full of budding light and life. It felt the light of belief whirling around it to other beings like it, but of light. Living things were pledging their energy freely, procluding the need for a god to feed on them.
The gods of light descended on the hungry god and proclaimed. "We are about to rid existence of your foul existence, existence craves our light, not your suffocating shadow."
Another spoke up with a tone of contempt "a universe of light abhors a shadow..." Before striking at the lone god.
The dark god fled back to the darkness only to run into other gods and smaller spirits of darkness that had been fleeing this light crusade.
"They seek an end to darkness, their brilliant light is all that concerns them.." Ariazronel, the largest god of darkness spoke. Its eyes abd body all of darkness itself, it saw all, and even its reality was in danger.
"Why would they want to destroy us? I thought we may appreciate our many differences, i desire to explore their beautiful lights." The hungry god spoke, distraught.
"Your hunger offends them, even if you tempered it. Your darkness is abhorrent even if you isolated yourself, found organic life to support your appetite... They would seek to destroy you, they have been seeing to our genocide for eons now..." Ariazronel spake with cold clarity.
"Could we not make peace?" The hungry creature asked with hope in its spiritual core.
"There is no peace to be made with creatures who need existence to conform to them..." Ariazronel replied, wishing it could reassure the small god.
Other gods of darkness came forward, including Ariazronel's many children, they explained that war was the only way to claim survival, and that the universe must always grow dark eventually.
The dark army of shadow entities led by a host of dark gods prepared for war and eventually went into the heart of the enemy's fortress, a mid sized galaxy full of trillions if brilliant lights. The army was forced to fight the army of light on its own terms, the light diminshing and weakening them.
As the battle raged wounded light gods would retreat to the galaxy to heal and return more powerful, and the hungry god eventually decided to use its talent for consuming light to invade directly to finish off its wounded opponents.
"Dont follow them in!" Ariazronel screamed, its voice echoing across creation.
The warning came too late and the hungry god was ambushed, impaled on all sides by searing light. One light god stepped forward, its aura a scintillating array of colors beyond the spectrum of organic sight, it spoke clearly to the fatally wounded god "you are the first of many, darkness ends." And it cleaved the distraught god of darkness in half at its waist.
"Shall we consume the parts?" A god of light asked.
The executioner, Lumen replied "only if you want to be next..." With disgust in its voice.
The 2 halves being of a god were not wholly dead and began to fall into the galaxy of light. As eons of its falling passed its halves both asserted their own wills, the bottom half hungry, the stomach of the great creature, and the top half thirsty, being the mind and chest of the god. They bled as they fell, inky shadow falling across the galaxy as it fell diminished.
The halves began to fall into a planet as they lost consciousness. Breaking the atmosphere and bleeding faster, coming near death. Hunger spoke "i... I am... Hungry..." Whimpering, weeping as it embraced its end.
"... I thirst... I will... Have revenge..." Thirst spoke, fury in its mind as it began to fade.
Then they collided with earth, invisibly, the shockwaves only felt by the mortals on the surface sensitive to the actions of gods abd spirits, otherwise ignorant to the tragedy of their exalted gods.
