Bobby is basically the new dog. She's a female, 5 y-o, soon to be 6, and has been with us since about mid-november.
There's a bit of a sad story to Bobby as her previous owner was an old woman suffering from Alzheimer's who could barely take care of herself let alone her dog. She's now in a home in southern France, near her daughters who couldn't visit very often when she was in Paris.
We used to see Bobby and her owner when going to the park with Lucie, the dogs were mostly friendly to each other. She lived in a ground floor appartment of a little side-street. The windows had big windowsills with a big metal barrier that made them almost like little balconies and that's where Bobby was hanging out most of the time, with her owner sitting by the window. Lately Bobby was neglected, her owner had stopped going out (a service was delivering food to her through the window as she wouldn't let them in) and Bobby would relieve herself in the kitchen on the other side of the appartment. After Lucie's passing my mom started going there daily trying to coax the owner into letting her take Bobby on little walks and bringing food as Bobby was mostly fed scraps of whatever her owner ate. She hadn't been to the groomer in a year and was a little ball of stinky matted fur.
The old lady had an accident mid-november, she fell and broke her wrist. Some neighbours alerted by Bobby's constant barking entered through the window and called the emergency services. They knew of my mother and called her to take care of the dog. After the basic care was done the old woman went to a hospital for the elderly where she was kept until her family arranged for a home in the south to which she departed mid-december. We just got and deposited the papers to adopt Bobby officially which should be made effective in about a couple months.
