MG ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos (Purple!)

After working on it every day since Sunday, I finished last night! I'm so happy with it! 🥰

My second MG, and my first ever paintjob. It was a super cool build, and the painting was a ton of fun. I learned a lot as I went, redid and adjusted stuff, but never ran into any big roadblocks! The whole thing was just super exciting the whole way through, hence why I was liveblogging it every day out of excitement LOL. I'm definitely gonna do more paintjobs in the future, especially since there's way too little purple to be found on most kits... 😉 I need more purple on my shelf.

Yours looks so cool! I love the way the different shades work together, and doing a mock-up seems great.

I might try your makeup sponge dabbing approach for painting something, as air brushing is a big hassle and it seems like an especially good way to do highlight layers and such.

Thank you! Hand-painting definitely is never gonna be as clean as airbrushing, but it wasn't too awful. I did some test painting with just regular brushes on a runner some time back, and getting an even application without big obvious brush strokes took some work. But some time later I just happened to read someone recommend using makeup sponges instead of brushing, and sponge-dabbing made it much easier to get an even coat!

I'm a bit hesitant to try airbrushing myself, I don't really have the space for a proper setup and my apartment doesn't have much in the way of ventilation, so I think I'm just going to keep doing my paints this way.
