People say things like "you can be trans without hormones" because someone, somwhere, through words or actions, has told them you can't. And to deny them the ability to say that is to lend your voice to that stranger, once again telling this person1 that you can't.
"You can be trans without hormones, but you're not allowed to talk about it," sure does feel like "You can be trans, but you're not allowed to talk about it".
