Introducing the Eggbug Plush Petition

You guessed it- we’re working with Makeship to design and produce the Eggbug Plush! There’s just one step first: get 200 petitions to greenlight the project and start production!

so what does this mean for you, fellow eggbug enthusiasts?

  • This petition will run for 7 days (10/10-10/17 at 10am PST)
  • Pledges are $2 and are a fully refundable deposit toward the final plush, which will cost $29.99
  • Once we reach 200 pledges, the design process will begin immediately and the plush will launch within 90 days!

I guess they could do a model closer to dropship where after the first batch, if 200 people preorder, they make a new batch.
That would probably lead to massive anxiety, angst and anger at preorder list that stale forever as not enough people join. Plus I guess they can't hold the preorder money forever so they would have to refund people after like a year and the preorder list would start shrinking after some time.

I understand. I would love to be able to order my favorite plushie at any time. I also remember made to order plushie being like triple digit price and if makeship had a made to order option, it would probably be 5 times more expensive.

Maybe they aren't the best option but they seem to be the more accessible one for people who have a small brand and want a plushie. Topatoco have a wonderful selection of merch and a service of "crowdfunding and fulfillment" but they don't advertise designing plushie. I know fangamer have at least one person on staff in charge of designing plushie but their core offering is more "wildly successful indie game" and not smoll but amazing social network.

Oh yeah, totally bro. "Don't buy this plush, just make your own." That's totally a real valid statement that sounds normal to everyone and isn't laughable in any way.

Also worth noting this is explicitly not just you buying a toy, this helps support the Cohost staff.

Makeship's ethics and worker policies are worth questioning, but I do feel like you're immediately coming at this from a presumptuous position of automatic badness.

I'd really like to get in on this, but I'm nervous to commit without knowing how much UK shipping is going to cost. Is there a shipping estimator that I've just overlooked, or if not, will one be available before signups close?
