Ok i honestly haven't played the game or watched the anime since Steins;Gate 0 came out and my memory is trash and i'm half asleep

but something i kept running into back when i was more actively into that series was... well, the transphobic fans being transphobic. claiming Luka "isn't trans, [they're] gay".

as if presenting as trans were an easier/safer way to express being gay.

but also the idea is, iirc, a complete misunderstanding of what actually fucking happened.

the claim is that "Luka is gay for Okabe, but uncomfortable with that, so Luka presents as a girl so it would be perceived as straight".

this assumes that Luka began presenting as a girl after she fell in love with Okabe.

but uh. no?

iirc, what happened was

Luka was already presenting as a girl before meeting Okabe. Okabe encountered her getting bullied for presenting a girl, defended her, and that's how she fell in love with him.

the transphobes have reversed the order of events in order to justify their narrative.

plus... Luka asks Okabe to use the D-Mail to medically transition her. That's kinda extreme action just to have your romantic feelings be seen as heterosexual.

i'm not tagging this, this is unfortunately one of those games where the conversation is way too fucking heated and i don't want this to spread outside of the people following me who are generally trustworthy i think

(also the game itself isn't transphobic i don't think, Okabe is - i always felt like the game was portraying Okabe as an unreliable and EXTREMELY flawed narrator, and I kinda hope the Okabe Ending would make that EXTREMELY CLEAR given what he does to everyone!!!! yeah it fucking sucks that the "good ending" forces you to un-transition Luka, but it also forces you to kill Faris's dad and significantly harm all of your friends' lives!!!! please don't look at what happens with Luka in a vacuum!!!)

in reply to @OniLink's post:

I've only ever watched the anime (first watched earlier this year, it's my second favourite anime now) so I can't really speak for the game. that said, apparently it's still possible to save Mayuri without un-doing the effects of all the d-mails... all except the one that affects Ruka/Luka. knowing this just makes me sad, but moreover, of all the changes they made how the hell is that the one that was absolutely foundational in saving Mayuri lmao??

also future Ruka/Luka reminds me of Morag in many ways and like, as if I needed even more reason to like her lol

also also, the one big problem I have with the show is the bits where Okabe "checks if [they're] a dude" in a really shitty thing played up for comic relief. other than that the show is amazing

ALL of the D-Mails had to be undone. It wasn't the fact that they were sending D-Mails that was fucking up the timeline, it was the fact that they were acting as big red flags for SERN to notice and realize "oh fuck they've got time travel, we can go steal it!"

The more D-Mails they sent, the more evidence SERN had to more quickly figure out who to raid to get the time travel tech. Undoing all the D-Mails meant that SERN had no idea where to find the time travel tech and thus couldn't get time travel themselves to take over the world. That's what let the world line jump from alpha back to beta.
