This is a completely uneducated five minute guess, so please disregard either way, as I'm likely plain wrong.
Apparently the root Nahuatl words are atl - water, and xolotl - servant. The L on both words is barely pronounced, but different to what would just be a 't'.
So Atl is just At(l)
Xolotl is Sho-lot(l).
It's a guess, but the correct pronunciation could be at-sholot(l)?
Rather than Acksolotol/etc.
Wiktionary IPA key for Xolotl gives 'Cho'/'Sho' for it and for Axolotl as well. Seems to skip the T in Atl even: /aːʃoːloːtɬ/ - Asholot(l).
"asholot" is how i remember hearing it, but i'd love to see a hard source
that said, tysm for the research! it does at least align with my own memory so i am... somewhat confident it is correct? but obviously someone who knows for sure would be the most reliable source
