Hey FFXIV players! Do you play caster or healer? Did you take Sleep off your hotbar because it's useless?

PUT IT BACK ON YOUR HOTBAR RIGHT NOW

SLEEP IS LEG SWEEP/LOW BLOW

It is admittedly slightly worse than Leg Sweep/Low Blow for having a cast time, but it is functionally equivalent to Leg Sweep/Low Blow. If you use Leg Sweep/Low Blow as a physical DPS/tank, you should be using Sleep as a caster/healer.

in reply to @OniLink's post:

sleep is really nice for interrupting casts that no one else is interrupting/can interrupt (thinking specifically about seductive scream in sirensong and That Turtle), and i agree that it's useful to keep on hotbars, but in that way i'd compare it more to a weird combination of interject and shield bash.

it's rarely useful in dungeons if it's not hitting an enemy that's mid-cast, since everyone will keep attacking and wake everything up instantly, unlike stuns which also give a few seconds of guaranteed mitigation. even the usually-discussed use case of "the tank died mid-pull, try to make time for the healer to raise them" has to rely on your other dps player stopping all aoe attacks (this will almost never happen)

...also, even aside from the immediate damage loss due to being a gcd, that 800 mp cost is enough that if you're doing your single-target rotation as black mage, you end your 6th fire IV with 400 mp and are forced to cut despair from fire phase, which is a silly problem to have.

they're still fun spells to set on your hotbar for the rare use case, though, especially repose for healers. it lets you feel smart when it comes up.

Exactly. I don’t normally want to spend a GCD on it, but I keep it in the corner of my hotbar just in case, and I use it specifically against the big turtle. But usually I just assume that anything dangerous enough to want to put to sleep is immune to it anyway. I wouldn’t even have thought to try it on the turtle without someone telling me.
