i wrote a program to find the relative coordinates of the maps in FFXIV by modeling the maps as nodes, connecting them with damped springs, and setting the ideal lengths of the springs to the teleport cost between the maps minus 100g (since we know teleport costs are 100g + some amount of money proportional to distance as-of Endwalker).

i did this late last year too but it was a less optimal simulation that didn't use damped springs. the damping helps to mitigate chaotic situations with large numbers of springs. i also added a z-axis to the simulation so it can utilize elevation in case that actually has an effect. i didn't think it would have an effect but uh... the simulation is putting known mountainous areas at higher elevations. so. i guess. the elevation. does affect teleport costs?

anyways. so far the outputs are looking pretty good. i'll post the full output maybe tomorrow once one of my friends has gotten the teleport costs massaged into the format my program uses. i also need to plot this all onto a graph and maybe overlay it on top of the map of the world to see how well it lines up.
