My partner is a teacher and uses YouTube as the main place to upload and store videos for her classes. She teaches computer science and a lot of these videos are on programming. Within the past week, a company / channel has gone about copyright striking her entire channel. Every video that was claimed are just lecture style videos with desktop computer capture and talking. There's no music or videos of other things or anything like that. It's just plain talking while typing into Visual Studio. Before she could even respond to any of these, YouTube not only shut down her channel, any channel tied to that channel, and also banned her from having another account on the platform!
She did some research into this company and it turns out that they sell online programming courses. So it seems this entire thing was just a way to remove free, high quality competition in order to sell their bullshit. This is part of her livelihood and she is now forced to have to rebuild from scratch on another video platform from what little she has backed up.
This makes me so angry and vindictive. I really want to help right this wrong and get her channel back! I also know that when YT is in the wrong about literally anything relating to their automated system it takes both an act of congress and all the starts to be in perfect alignment. I know this is even true for the biggest content creators on the platform. I honestly don't even know where to start in all this but I have ideas of things I know exist or that some people have tried. I personally don't feel this will get resolved unless there's some big public outcry about this and even then, maybe the odds are slim. I just want to do whatever I can to help because it's been devastating for her and I just really really love her and want to do whatever I can to help!
If you have any information or advice on what we should do next, please comment on this post! If nothing else, spreading this around both here and other social places online would be a giant help! Thank you so much!
