otherwise, they don't get to prescribe them. It should be this simple. withdrawl (Oh, I'm sorry, Cessation Syndrome) is downplayed a whole lot in the lit.

if they don't have that experience, they really cannot be managing the course of treatment accurately.

I'd even settle for "they taper off it but it's something with a high initial dose like 50mg" so they feel that yes, it's still a problem even then.

But I know so many people on high doses, who's doctors then go on vacation or whatever and dont give them the heads up. Who just lose weeks.

tangentially related, it's incredibly fucked up that prescriptions with debilitating withdrawal symptoms are at the mercy of doctor availability, insurance approval, and supply shortages due to the FDA and the greed of pharmaceutical execs

the amount of unnecessary stress ive had to deal with from insurance companies refusing to let me fill more than 30 days of my meds, and only when they estimate im about to run out of my last refill. it makes planning for travel suuper fun when it costs $600+ to fill some of them out of pocket, and when pharmacies have limited numbers of allowed transfers for certain meds, and fuck me if i ever want to spend more than a week or two out of the country i guess.

operating in plain sight where "healthcare" supposedly exists but no care is being continuously provided

medicine is violent and this keeps me from trying to treat my adhd because i have seen what so many others go through interacting with scheduled medication laws

... make sure you're prepared to deal with issues getting stuff filled. there are just so many things that can go wrong. so many.

make sure you know which of your meds have more serious withdrawal issues. think carefully before going on or off those ones and taper up and down as slowly as you see fit. every med you take is an added burden of making sure you keep getting it.

overseas pharmacies can mail you most non-controlled prescription drugs without actually having a prescription, and often it's pretty fuckin' cheap. taking grey market Indian antidepressants might be weird but it's better than brain zaps

I would hope that such a practice would have the desired effect, but if I'm being honest I have a hard time seeing it.

I struggle to think of a situation where having been subjected to a form of potential pain or cruelty reliably stopped or discouraged people from inflicting that pain or cruelty on others when given the power or authority to do so.

Having to be pepper sprayed in training doesn't seem to discourage police from using pepper spray unnecessarily, and having experienced severe COVID-19 symptoms at some point doesn't seem to get people to wear masks.

just taking this kind of thing as an opportunity to stock up a backbuffer for when the system inevitably fails you is a really good idea if you can swing it. most medications functionally don't expire, especially when kept in dark dry room temperature storage; the ones that do merely lose some potency, far slower than the actual expiry.
