I feel like, on some level, I deeply injured my brain by reading Working Effectively With Legacy Code at a young age

on the other hand, it's been great for my career for not making me afraid of glue and discovery

This book can't hurt me because I can't read!

i.e. I dodged both harmful methodologies and precious gems of learning by being born a person who does not enjoy learning from books.

Although I suspect it's like mentoring from an elder programmer: a mixed bag to be sifted through for gems.

Honestly, I talk about it like that sometimes, but it's one of the few books on software engineering that I would just completely recommend. Well, I haven't re-read it in a while, so maybe I should before continuing to, but it was pretty great!
