I would really like to be able to stop paying for COBRA health insurance because an equivalent marketplace plan would be half as expensive but because I missed the open enrollment window and didn't know that dropping COBRA doesn't count as a qualifying event my only other options are no insurance or a private plan that fucks my taxes up.
Literally paying double for the same coverage entirely because I fucked up timing and, like, I know that this lock in is profitable and that's why it's like this but I don't even understand what fake reasoning is used to justify this setup, what possible benefit could there be to saying people can't switch health insurance except under these specific circumstances?
This is one of those ways they fuck you over even if you make tech money. obviously I'm lucky and privileged to even be in this situation but don't think for one second they don't have new and exciting ways to steal larger amounts of money from you when you break out of poverty. Hell when I was in poverty they had Florida Healthy Kids to cover me and my brother for like $20 a month or something. How dare I grow up, I guess.
