And the smartest thing I think it does is, if the effects from your jokers/cards/etc. take a while to resolve, it starts speeding up and playing the sounds/showing the indicators faster. It's like the most subtle snowballing success feeling when you notice it happening.
I imagine people well versed in the genre (I'm not) will already know, but for folks who only know video game deckbuilders or are just seeing Balatro hype but wanna play with friends, Dominion is built on the same principles and is really fun. It works well at hangouts or parties too since a game is about 30 mins long and it's pretty easy to learn.
