For all the shit we (rightly) give the concept of an "idea guy", sometimes I feel like I would love nothing more than to just pair up with a product person or game designer I trust and just make whatever they ask me to. Coming up with ideas and fleshing them out is like pulling teeth.

i feel this a lot!! dealing with the design problems of my high concept idea being unplayable is annoying lol
"trust" is I think quite an important clause there, I've been burned one too many times trying to work on a game with one or more friends who didn't actually know anything about game design or even had that many good ideas
That's one thing I enjoyed and hated about doing custom work. A lot of times it was stuff I never would have thought to make and I learned a lot! What a delight! Felt like a genius when I pulled it off!!
And a lot of times it was stuff I never wanted to make and hated every moment of hahaha
Not to mention the times when people wanted things that were impossible or dangerous and would look sour if I told them no lmao.
