I refuse to vibe with shame as a tool for changing behavior. Shaming is about making things comfortable for you, not about changing the behavior of who you're shaming.

I honestly don't think you take the threat of AI seriously if you think you can shame anyone even remotely engaging with it (positively or negatively) and it'll just somehow go away.

in reply to @Osmose's post:

I've seen people say that cyberbullying younger folk is okay because of this stupid AI stuff, no it isn't.

At this point, even if I don't really care for AI that much, I can't really side with even the artists I follow either, not because they're against AI, but because what I've seen most of the time has been just about This, even if it's genuinely ethical (Can't find the post but one person used their own data for their writing to help them out of a writers block, people dogged on them so hard.)

one person used their own data for their writing

It's tough because you can't actually train an LLM on only your own writing—if they did this with an LLM what they actually are doing is taking an existing, pre-trained LLM and giving it additional training on their own content. But the model was still pre-trained on stolen data, and that pre-training still consumed a lot of resources.

But, like, understanding that requires you to actually learn and think about how LLMs work instead of just going "LLMs are bad and you're bad for even entertaining the idea of them".

I'm extremely against the use of LLMs in more or less every form, but if my goal is to decrease use of them, venting my frustration by bullying folks is actively counterproductive to that goal.

That's true and a good way to put it, I've just seen people use it for better cause than what most use it for anyway, even if it's still AI, and people get harassed badly for it.

Still though, yeah, I'm honestly more displeased at the bullying, more than anything.
