"Hey, you can't just walk right in here! This is an active murder investigation!"

The pair looked at each other, then back at me. "Where's the body? Or the evidence?" the slightly taller one asked.

I rolled my eyes. The other CSIs had already gathered a suitcase worth of DNA and had marked the entire living room. I glanced down and nearly choked on my own saliva.

"Wait, where-"

The slightly shorter one smirked and handed me a business card. On the front, it read 'Bureau of Nonexistence.' I turned it over in my hand, and it was actually blank on both sides.

"This is our case," said the slightly taller one. "The person who was here wasn't just murdered, but is being systematically erased from reality. Everyone here needs to step outside before this house becomes an entirely different building."

Without a word, my entire team picked up their things and left. It was as they had been hypnotized into following that order. My mouth hung agape as I watched. Something tickled at the back of my head. It was a lingering sensation, not unlike déjà vu.

"I've met you before." I said. As soon as the words left my mouth, something struck me. "No, wait, I called you here, didn't I?"

The slightly shorter one nodded, still smirking. The slightly taller one gave me a raised eyebrow. "Not everybody connects the dots. Be on the lookout for a recruiter, we could use more lateral thinkers in the Bureau."

As I walked back to the van, I glanced at my watch. It had somehow been a couple hours and I swore I just parked. I shrugged to myself and pulled out an odd, blank card from my pocket. With a frown, I tossed it in the cupholder without a second thought. I looked back at the empty house. The lights were off, and Nobody was home.
