I ran a garden gnome RP blog on tumblr for a very long time in middle and high school which had this concept as part of its worldbuilding. Don't think I ever explicitly revealed that in a post on it though. Also it wasn't inspired by the dril tweet (I didn't know what dril was at the time, didn't use twitter)
