I've been sitting on this ask for a bit, because it made me realize that I had not thought of a lot of the Division Members lives OUTSIDE the church. Which is frankly very unfair to all of them! They're all unique individuals, unified for a single cause. So I spent the last few days chewing on the thought, and here's what i've got!
I will attempt to touch on every one! While I have some obvious favorites, they're all my pride and joy.
So, without further ado, and in no particular order!:
Abraham is a very stoic and composed sort of man. You'll never see him expressing any kind of errant emotion, save for when things don't go exactly as he expects. He was never a social person, even though his tenure with the Church has been consistent since he was very young. He's one of the few natural leaders in Division 6, and is very thorough when planning and carrying out their assignments. Currently, bedmates with Damaris, and has been a very comforting figure in his life - even if at times Abe has trouble connecting to his emotional outbursts.
Adriel and Azriel are a bit of an enigma, even before their imprintations, they were attached at the hip. They did most everything together, regardless of personal feelings. Before the church, they simply did what they could at their parent's house in the countryside of Sunsbrooke. Being fairly young, they couldn't really see anything else for them once they agreed to give their bodies and lives to the Discipleship Program. Adriel is more the quiet type, very brooding and mysterious. The type of person you would find walking in the woods at an ungodly hour. He somehow manages to be objectively correct any time he says anything. Azriel is a bit more lighthearted, not-so-serious and much more energetic than Adriel. She'd be the kind to roughhouse or pull pranks on other members.
Delilah was training to join the Sunsbrookian Police Force before she decided to switch gears to something more 'noble', in her own words. Her dad was a cop, so was her grandfather. Her mom stayed at home. She had little interest in continuing the family tradition, but with the constant support and praise from her father, she sort of felt like she was obligated to. Her serious and self-serving demeanor derives from her being forced to care for herself for most of her life. She's seen a lot of struggle, and doesn't take kindly to being talked down to by people she views as 'below' her. Though, in an attempt to secure a leadership position, she is attempting to better conceal her attitude.
Judith never really had a say in what she wanted to do with her life, it was picked out for her. Her father is a very corrupt and influential Cardinal in the Church. An extremely prestigious position. One that comes with a lot of pressure to uphold through generations. From the day she was old enough to read, her eyes were on the teachings in the scripture. She was suffocated by it, and the expectation to be a perfect in any way her family needed her to be. She was to become something in the Church. She had to. Needless to say, she is extremely by the book, she knows the commandments and proceedings, and follows them to a T. This has led to some stubbornness and difficulties with other division members, as she is so highly practiced and up kept that many believe it to be a concealment of some sort. Aside from that, she's just an extremely devoted and determined individual.
Ophir has had a chronic illness since birth, and she had begun to soak in the church from very young. Her parents would pray for her condition to improve, and it would have its ups and downs. Back and forth between her bed at home, and a bed in a hospital. She has always been a quiet and studious girl, not having much strength to do more than read and learn. Oph was projected to die fairly young when she made the decision to give herself to the Discipleship Program. Her personality has not changed much, she has an optimism about her, but the notion of people relying on her and taking her words to heart is something new for her. Being one of the youngest and newest additions to Division 6, she has yet to get acquainted and comfortable with everyone yet.
Enoch comes from a long line of college-men, scholars, and lawyers. Needless to say, he's always been sortof an arrogant and argumentative personality. He was taught to be proud of his species, and his blood, and he has taken that kind of thinking to heart. He was chewing his way through a year's long college process to work towards law-school, when he decided it wasn't for him, and he pivoted to servitude in the church. His family had been rather religious, and it did not take him long to talk himself into a comfortable position - several priests actually reached out to him to request he join the Discipleship Program, to which he contentedly agreed. The time he spends not arguing with his division members is usually spent on upkeeping the Church grounds.
Damaris was orphaned at so young that he cannot even recall the names of his parents. Church was a mandatory Sunday activity that his orphanage partook in, as well as a few of the foster homes that he was in and out of. It always captivated him, the unification and love felt through service, the music especially. Though, he would never work up the nerve to do anything more than listen. He had always dealt with suicidal thoughts and depression, never able to push the feeling that he was 'unwanted' out of his head. It didn't help that he was picked on by kids far larger than him for his eccentricities. He took a subservient approach, regressing into a meek and non-confrontational kid - because he was so afraid of pain. Damaris just, sort of, stuck around one day. Decided to stay in the church of his own will. A kind bishop took him in and gave him a place to stay before he decided to, voluntarily, join Division 6.
Abby was a promising lacrosse player for her college, before she sustained an injury to her legs that took her out of the season. That mousegirl can play ball. She was always a source of energy for her team, and her peppy attitude is kept up by her own sheer, insurmountable blind optimism. She says more than she needs to, and is always trying to seem smarter than she is, but most people love that about her. Surprisingly enough, Abby isn't very religious, despite her being an Apostle. Regardless, she dropped her studies with full support from her family, and has already made a name for herself by innovating a combat style utilizing Talismans.
Samuel was a student who was studying under Constock to take his position as a priest when he inevitably had to retire. Thus, he is very knowledgeable about the church, and his friendly nature causes a lot of his division to talk to him about their thoughts. Very good talker. Being the first of Div 6, at times he can forget that others had not been a cog in the machine as long as he has, and he can get frustrated when someone tests his patience. He was subject to a terrible accident, one that left him gravely injured. The church, at that point, had wanted to attempt soul-splitting for a long time and took advantage of Constock's desperation to finally go through with them. The first iteration of soul-splitting was, crude. Quite literally sowing half of a live person with their soul intact, with the recipient. Regardless, it was successful, and Samuel was changed. Constock still keeps Samuel close, and he's considered the second-in-command when it comes to interdivision politics. Though, due to his obscurification of his past, most consider his relationship with their clergy Father to be undeserved.
Percy had always been a 'bro' sort of guy. Sort of ditzy and passionate, with either courage or stupidity, depending on who you ask. That hasn't gone away, even with some of the things he's been witness to as a part of Division 6. He was very athletic in high school, enough to warrant him a full-scholarship to the medical college he was attending. He wanted to be an athletic health specialist, a personal trainer, and wrestler too. He had a lot of aspirations, and he was fairly successful in fulfilling the ones that he had the opportunity to! Percy is a very smart guy, despite his vocabulary being stunted by his 'tude. You could not ask for a more personable doctor.
Alpheus is a warrior, and has been fighting tooth-and-nail for her life ever since she was born. Her mother died in childbirth, due to complications, and she was born with deformities to her arms and legs, as well as serious cardiovascular, circulatory, and respiratory issues. She was on an incubator in the hospital for 2 months, wherein she had started to develop an infection from her poor circulation. She became a quadruple amputee shortly after. By the age of 14, she became a natural predator for the Sunsbrooke nightlife. She was quickly absorbed into sacrilegious groups and activities. Her aggressive nature appealed to punks and dissenters, and they would take advantage of perceived helplessness. Her father kept her at home after that, for her protection, and she stayed homeschooled into her mid-twenties. There was really no pressure from her Dad to do much of anything. He was an accountant and tax-man, so she helped sort papers and keep numbers, though she always wanted more out of life.
Thus concludes a general condensed version of most of the Division members lives before the Church!! I hope this was enjoyable to read, most of it is straight out of my head, so I understand if you have questions! I would be happy to answer what I can - though I am keeping some details under wraps for when I write stories with these guys! Thank you for your interest, Plums!!
