Sounds great but before I turn them off I need to find out if that former Blizzard tester that the feed really really wants me to watch all the time is a bullshitter.
Your not talking about pirate software the dev of the indie game heartbound?I thought he was a former blizzard dev/software person not a tester or Q/A person, He seems fine mostly.
Yeah, dude gives of major bullshitter vibes. Of course, vibes can be super misleading. I only saw a short here and there of him so I am not sure how high he got on the corporate ladder at blizzard. But I do remember him saying he was QA and talking about... moderating World of Warcraft... which isn't a real job at all.
Just yesterday I saw one where he talked about using steam achievements for copy protection and that was definitely bullshit.
I've seen some of his stream. At the end of the day, I think he's an ok/well meaning dude, but he does that thing where he speaks like he's an authority on everything, even when he has no idea what he's talking about.
He definitely knows how to make games, and he's trying to form a one-man corporation just so he can provide benefits to his moderators.
But when he speaks outside of his area of expertise sometimes he seems way off the mark.
He sure is entertaining enough to watch 1 or 2 shorts of him per month.
I keep getting Joe Rogan with the occasional video game thing I'm interested in.
I would... but youtube turned EVERY < 1 minute video into a short when they first released shorts.
So that 1 minute video from 2 years ago showing you how to adjust some stupid setting? Its a short now.
If that was reversed... I'd block all shorts in a heartbeat.
What? I don't seem to be experiencing that. Shorts use a different url, for what it's worth you can turn any short into a video by using the video url format. But that only works in the browser and it is a pain to do. The player controls for shorts are too limited.
I have a plugin that forces shorts to use the regular Youtube layout so yay.
But yeah. A lot of old videos got converted to be "shorts" if they met the criteria of: Under 1min. and would default pull up the Shorts URL.
This made a lot of very simple videos like navigating a BIOS or router setting annoying to watch. (The video would be treated like it was portrait, even though it was clearly landscape) - or even search for, because Videos and Shorts are separated on people's channels.

I think the worst part about YT Shorts is they're almost all portrait or 1:1 ratio, meaning I need to scroll 3x as much on mobile just to get past them to the actual videos I want.
Everything about the modern internet is finding ways to waste more of my time and make my experience less enjoyable. It's great! /s
They don't bother me at all since YouTube puts them in their own little tray for some reason, so out of the way that I forget they exist. Actually, I used to watch a channel called Action Lab Shorts that had all its videos turned into literal YouTube Shorts because of their length. Since they stopped integrating shorts and regular videos together in the subscription box, I just don't watch them any more which is a shame.
