Something I truly despise about camp is that people believe it being camp is an airtight defense.
Like, I can talk about all the shit I do not like about a work, why I think it's flawed and doesn't sit right with me.
And people will come up and go "Okay, but it's camp!"
Like that excuses it. Like I didn't fucking notice? Camp is many things... it is not subtle.
So instead the term just gets used the same way a kid playing pretend will declare that your bullets didn't hit them- they have invisible armor. They are impervious.
And the reason this sucks is because it also demeans the work. Because camp doesn't become beyond reproach, it becomes something people are unwilling to hear critique on. And that means it grows fucking stagnant.
