a thing that is coming up with a friend that i think grates on my greatly but is very popular with like the osr crowd. is i like to have EXTREMELY clear verbs.
when i say i do something in a game i think it's levers should be clearly marked. if you only have a handful of attributes to roll i should be able to intuit which one is used for a particular verb and if not the game should spell that out.
because one of the worst things, is describing what you do and then getting told no, wait- that's this instead. and then either having to argue or go, "i guess ill do something else then cause id fail that roll"
edit:
i also do really like broad action verbs that can be used in different ways. but that needs to be stated as the intent... and you still need to make sure you have your bases covered.
if i've got 12 actions and there is some wiggle between two for a specific action, thats fine. if you only have 3 actions i want to know exactly when i use each one.
because otherwise you get into the wildsea "edges" thing where it becomes entirely about how you flavor your actions.
