Attempted to write a longer piece about the tyranny of happy endings. how knowing they refuse to threaten their happily ever after these stories are threatening you with prop guns and it destroys any sense of stakes. how you can wind up with this creeping sense of dread because you are hoping the story will stick to its gun and be interesting and not bend itself backwards to give you what it thinks you want...
but it's going to stay in my drafts because i was using the witch from mercury as an example and i got COMPLETELY derailed by how much i fucking hate that show's ending. it is up their with game of thrones for an ending that made me retroactively dislike the rest of the show. anyway wound up being too much vitriol and not enough analysis. maybe ill find another entry point to the topic later
