I love comics. I won't ever be able to fully express why sequential art hits so much for me but more than that there's something so interesting about it's base genre of superheroes. Or as I affectionately call it, cape shit.
However, I also find myself having to keep at a wide remove from any kind of fandom because it is the most toxic shit you will ever see. I had someone leave a comment on one of my posts because they were happy to see a comic fan saying something positive.
The space just does not allow for affection towards the work we are here to enjoy. For those fully removed, I have seen multiple groups whose main way of expressing how they feel about comic writers is wishing them harm or death. I do really want to be a space where people can get positive information and recommendation on works.
But I really have to address the fact that, more than any other audience I have seen, comic fans have ZERO ability to critically analyze or interpret a work.
So to examine all this I am gonna examine a series almost universally beloathed and talk about all the cool shit it got.
