My kid (age 9) kept talking about the big update to the battle system for the educational math RPG video game he likes, but then made some silly mistakes on a recent school assignment. So I made him write an essay critically breaking down that game’s update.

Behave yourselves, or you’re next.

“There is a new update in Prodigy Math's battles so I am going to talk about it. Prodigy Math is a fun game where you are a character and you go around a map. You and your pets fight monsters with math magic and you can do many other things too. I like the new update, but some things are not so great.

One way I like the change of battle is that there are weaknesses. For example, one monster is weak to fire and then another monster does a fire spell at the first monster. In this game you can capture monsters and then they join your team. The monster that is weak to fire is damaged more. Adding weaknesses to the game makes the player think about battles to come and put the pet that has that strength to your battle group.

One thing I don't like about the updated battles is that your spells can miss when you get the question wrong and when you get the question right. This is different because before the update you only missed if you got the question wrong.

Another thing that I like is that when you die you don't just run away you turn into a bright light and fly away fast. One more thing that I like is when you battle the background looks more nice. It looks more nice because it matches the art of the place where you started battling.

In conclusion I would really recommend Prodigy Math's new update because it has given me more things to do in the game. And be careful: don't turn into a bright light and fly up into the sky!”
