Left side:

In 2023, LGBTQ+ books are being threatened with censorship in Manitoba

Right side:

In 1917, this was common practice under Lenin's totalitarian regime.

This feels... Off to me??? I mean regardless of actual historical facts, there's something very weird to me with the deliberate surface reading of "censoring LGBTQ+ littérature is just as bad as COMMUNISM."

But I am extremely not well versed in Russian history so I don't know!!! I don't necessarily expect the communist party back then was particularly friendly towards gay folks?

Help!!!

in reply to @Pauline-Ragny's post:

I think they're trying to refer to soviet censorship in general? I mean there might be some examples of censorship of gay literature but I'm not aware of any, and they decriminalized gay sex in the RSFSR in 1917. The angle of going after Lenin specifically is pretty weird when institutional homophobia in the USSR increased after Lenin's tenure as Chairman. In general it seems like an attempt to appeal to conservatives so I don't really know why you wouldn't go for Stalin, the ultimate bogeyman for every right-winger.
