It's the kind of thing that's noticeable mostly on text but it affects the whole screen if you can see it. It's like they upscaled the game at a resolution that isn't a perfect multiple of the base resolution with nearest neighbour. No upscaling algorithm to smooth it out. I tried both video settings and it looks the same. It makes the game look so ugly and it's bothering the shit out of me. You should try to keep pixel art games running at a multiple of their resolution to make it crisps and clean but if you have to break that rule, at the very least use something to smooth it out a bit I dunno.

Compare with the Vita version, on the right where the text looks perfect.

Also the PS4 version clearly based on the vita version as evidence by the hot spring having a sign above it and a bunch of puzzles being adjusted, but they didn't keep the bestiary? Why???

ah, I didn't know any of that. that sucks :c especially the bestiary thing, that is very much bewildering...

By my eye, the pixel art looks perfect, or at least not noticeably distorted (keeping in mind this image is a jpg). I don't have experience of course, so maybe it's evident during actual gameplay as opposed to the email menu, but my guess is that they tried to do something weird to the font to make it more readable, maybe??? or it's just that font rendering is messed up in general? I have no idea. (as far as I know, the font is just a spritesheet in the PC version, which makes it all the weirder that this is an issue...)

The font is at twice the resolution compared to the rest of the game's graphics, so it's possible for the screen to be at a perfect multiple for most sprites without being a perfect multiple for the fonts.

From looking up screenshots of the Vita version, it looks like the game's native res is 480p, with small borders to pad it out to the Vita's 544 height. On the PS4, they seem to have stretched the image vertically to fill the 1080p screen, even though that's not an even multiple of the original res. The PC version seems to do a little sprite scaling to avoid messy pixels, but... I guess the PS4 version doesn't?
