Fallout: New Vegas Review

It would be inaccurate to say I dislike Fallout New Vegas. I can't really rightly say I've experienced New Vegas at all. I've felt compelled to find out why this game is popular multiple times. Unfortunately trying to play New Vegas means engaging with the Bethesda game engine. Everything about that engine is repulsive to me from the way it renders its world to the way you interact with it.

I just cannot force myself to look past the most emblematic product of Bethesda's trash design philosophy. No amount of potentially good writing can motivate me to suffer the worst gunplay systems ever designed in a first person video game. The way the ugliest character models stare straight at your with dead eyes in conversations is offensive to my every senses. The narrative of Todd Howard being a little guy who's doing his best in his humble video game workshop, making things "just work" with duct tape and hope, is insulting in light of how much money Bethesda makes.

Many pieces of media get criticized for having style but no substance. There's often an implication that substance is more important than style. I believe both concepts are equally valuable to a piece of art. Unfortunately Bethesda developed games have neither. Fallout New Vegas may have substance. I fully believe the friends who have told me so. I will likely never find out for myself because the style is so rancid it makes me ill.

Incidentally I would personally appreciate if the trans women love New Vegas meme could die.
