I got horizon zero dawn second hand years ago and never played much of it. Felt like starting it again and write thoughts.

The intro to this game is such a dad game. Here is dad man taking his baby daughter to the mean angy women who hate him even though he's such a nice dad. They are outcast you see. They repeat this a lot. Hopefully they explain what he did to be outcast at some point.

Aloy finds a google glass that shows holograms. She can see the path the machine takes. There's a scene where a teen falls from a cliff in the middle of a herd of machines. The dad is like "I can't help him there's too many machines to sneak and if I start shooting them they'll start a stampede" so Aloy runs in and shows she can predict where the machines are going. It's meant to be a tutorial and also show that Aloy is headstrong and has an advantage on everyone but like, the patrol of the machines is so slow and simple you could do this without the google glass. As you guide the teen, he keeps saying stuff like "How are you doing this???" "How is this possible???" and I'm like dude I'm just walk past when they're not looking... It's not that hard. I'd give the game a break if they only had one of those lines but he has like 4. The way he's completely flabbergasted at your ability to walk where the robots aren't looking every time you reach a hide spot is just comical.

I can already tell it's one of those games where characters never fuckin shut up.

The teen wants to thank them for literally saving his life but his tribe is like "THEY OUTCAST. NYO TALKY OUTCAST >:("

Some bully kid throws a rock at Alloy and calls her a "No-mother" because this is a matriarchal society. I kinda hate this already. I feel like I'm watching the daddiest trash fantasy. This is a world where the most comically gooddest dad is mistreated by a cabal of women. AAA game writers should really consider talking to a woman once.
should Aloy throw the rock back
OH BOY IT'S TIME FOR A. MORAL CHOICE. What year is this. I thought AAA devs had gotten over those by then.

Fuck this kid. I'm aiming for his head.

Dad shot the rock midair with an arrow somehow and is giving me disappointed face. "We are Outcast Aloy." Fuck you dad. They sure love saying that word. This dialogue is so awkward.

If someone's interested enough to start playing, I recommend they keep playing past the intro, even if they think it sucks. I agree, it is really bad, but it's just setup for the actual story, which I actually really really like. If you end up not wanting to play, I recommend at least watching a video explaining the lore
And yeah, the NPCs do have trouble with not shutting up sometimes lol

The Very Dad Segment will end and you’ll encounter such characters as Tough Mom, Alcoholic Soldier, Peace-Loving Twink, Flamboyant Spy, and Callous Know-It-All. Seriously, I love this game and I think its story and characters are okay, but they’re not its greatest strength.
