When I adopted Onion he had this bad habit of eating too fast and making himself sick. So I got him a food puzzle. It's a very basic one but the idea is that he can't grab more than a few crunchies from the tubes with his paws at once so he eats a lot slower that way.
Now he's so used to it he refuses to eat dinner from anything else. If I try to give him dinner in a bowl he's like "what is THIS??? I am CIVILIZED!! I eat my food from the PUZZLE thank you very much!"
