Movie concept: Following the road trips through the spring and summer of 1973 with the research assistant at Boyer’s lab shuttling plasmids and enzymes between UCSF and Stanford. Lots of conversations between the people in the car. Irl they drove a Volkswagen Beetle. This project ended up with some of the largest genome discoveries in history, and I just love that a whole bunch of 40 minute drives on the same stretch of highway outside san fransisco in a volkswagen beetle was a crucial part of it.
