Hi! I'm Phorm, and I'm a Vixdjinn!

I'm a genie girl, who really likes being a genie, and really likes everything about genies (really)! I'm a bit confused, lost, and trying to find my way, but I always enjoy interacting with folks here. (Trans🏳️‍⚧️, occasionally NSFW, Be 18+ or please be gone.)

Now that the System Shock Remake is finally out, I will say two thing:

1. The game is very good in my opinion. The balance struck between preserving elements of the original and adding new accessibility/QoL features is excellent. Shodan remains the absolute best.

2. The replacement of the flechette gun with a shotgun is an unforgivable offense against mirrorshade cyberpunk girls. How could they turn their back on Molly Millions like this?

I've been really interested in the discussions around this game, with everyone agreeing that in terms of overall interface and playability it's very close to the original, but there's some sharp disagreement as to whether that's a good thing.

It's a pretty fascinating glimpse into the nature of remakes, and what we think we want from them, and what they turn out to be. If it's too slavish a recreation, you just go "we have the old game." If it's too different, you go "why is this a remake?"

I'm not sure where I stand but I'm very, very looking forward to this. I could never get the original to run and I'm a huge fan of immersive sims, so I am looking forward to plugging this hole in my play history.

(I did play System Shock 2! Do the reality distortion effects of the FTL engine in the final act make SHODAN technically, a genie?)

Honestly, part of what I really love about the System Shock remake is that the original game really needed it. The fact that it makes the game available, accessable, and playable to so many people is a tremendously positive thing in my view - Enough that I tend to overlook a lot of other things. Because if all we've got is something that's broken and difficult to engage with properly, everything else kinda feels like nitpicking, you know?

It's not perfect, but I really hope you enjoy it!

(Also, excellent question about Shodan! I'm not entirely sure of the answer, but I'll let you know when the VR port comes out, and I get to visit her in the warpspace while in VR... Unless something goes horribly wrong and she uses the strange confluence of technology to make ME her technogenie and escape the game.... That sure would be awful!!)
