Vixen. Genie. Vixdjinn!

Hi! I'm Phorm, and I'm a Vixdjinn!

A Friendly Vixdjinn Says Hello!

I'm a genie girl, who really likes being a genie, and really likes everything about genies (really)! I'm a bit confused, lost, and trying to find my way, but I always enjoy interacting with folks here. (Trans🏳️‍⚧️, occasionally NSFW, Be 18+ or please be gone.)

One day I'll be able to tell the difference between "Peculiar but harmless computer quirk" and "Thing you shouldn't ignore because it's a sign of something absolutely nefarious and/or hardware failure occurring".

I think things are fine, and it's just weirdery going on. But even just the possibility makes me freak out.

Is the fact that the game I've been playing on Steam was suddenly removed from my custom game category list a weird Steam quirk? A dying hard drive? Somebody else fucking with my Steam account?

Is my router periodically dropping, and then blocking, connections from some but not all of my wireless devices in the middle of the night a sign of aging hardware? Is it a malware attack?

Who can tell! But no matter what the cause, I'll never know, and all I can do is sit here and wait for things to blow up in my face! Wonderful!

in reply to @PhormTheGenie's post:

It may or may not help but I eventually went through about five routers before I found one that wouldn't drop various WiFi connections and the Internet connection randomly, and I'm 90% certain the Internet droppage was due to construction over a one year span. Especially with all-in-one boxes, it's really hard to pin down what's going wrong.

I have heard that WiFi routers are notorious for being unreliable in unpredictable and inconsistent ways. It just really bothers me that, it seeming selects only certain devices, disconnects them, and then refuses to let them reconnect. And even in the router logs, it just shows connections and disconnections, rather than any justification.

I suppose I'm due to replace it anyway

The larger worry, though, is all this stuff that might be nefarious or a sign of BIG problems keeps happening. And the advice seems to be "Well, wait until it's a crisis. No way to tell until then."
