One of the coolest features that PSO had, back in the day, was that you could craft and customize a series of "Symbol Chat" cards that you could display on demand. The cards were largely designed so as to need minimal text and/or language, making it easy to display emotions or needs quite quickly without the use of a keyboard. It was largely "generic emoji" style, in principle.
I loved it because I found a way to make it fox-themed, and then found a way to make it silly.
I never played, but I heard a lot about PSO and the innovations it came up with. They sound real cool!
For the time and place it was created, it really was extremely rad!
I say this as an avowed Dreamcast fangirl, though, so my opinion may be slighted biased.
