Hi! I'm Phorm, and I'm a Vixdjinn!

A Friendly Vixdjinn Says Hello!

I'm a genie girl, who really likes being a genie, and really likes everything about genies (really)! I'm a bit confused, lost, and trying to find my way, but I always enjoy interacting with folks here. (Trans🏳️‍⚧️, occasionally NSFW, Be 18+ or please be gone.)

This weekend I watching a stream on Twitch dot Television (as you do), when someone joined the chat of the channel I was watching and said the following as their first message:

"Hey, I've never seen your stream before, but you're the streamer with the lowest viewer count that I could find. I'm not going to watch, because I have better things to do. But I'll leave your stream on to boost you."

And all I could think of was "My friend what the actual, factual fuck did you just type". Why would anyone in their right mind think that is an okay thing to say?? Did they consider themselves a hero for adding +1 to the active viewer count, and expect some manner of recognition for it? Did they want a cookie?? And even if they did legitimately think that they were bestowing some manner of magnanimous blessing, why the hell would they lead with "Hey, according to the metrics, you're clearly in need of help"??

The streamer took it in serious stride, though, with basically a response of "Thanks much for lurking!" Honestly far more than the fool deserved.

By the by, the viewer count at the time this comment was made was around 250. Which is, by my count, pretty heckin' respectable??

This probably not worth the consideration I'm giving it.

Honestly, I haven't spoken up in any Twitch chat for a while (Months? A year?) at this point. And it boils down to just knowing how annoying and insufferable I am, even if I don't realize it. I fear becoming this kind of goober.

The propensity to make it all about you, the chatter, is an affliction I fear taking root in me. And streamers have enough bullshit to tangle with without having to somehow endure inane or insulting messages, and do so with a smile.

I saw a similar weird message over the weekend. makes me wonder if this is some bot thing or just people getting weird trying to get around the whole gameified compensation that goes on at twitch.

Yeah, for sure. It's absolutely someone who I think is full time. Or at least a significant chunk of their effort goes into streaming.

I guess maybe for a portion of the audience, though, they only know the huge, huge, multi-thousand viewer streamers? Still feels weird to me.

So whenever I stream, no fewer than 12 bots show up. I don't know who they are. They have account names that sound halfway plausable ("framerates", "elonely", etc.) and nondefault avatars. 😕

Twitch must be aware that they're bots, because they don't add to my viewer count. Twitch does not ban them. 😶

I know there are a few pretty high-profile bots in EVERY chat. I always presumed they were providing some function that Twitch either encourages or desires - But regardless, the ones who speak up always seem to be awful, and get banned quickly.

Twitch doesn't take action because they are cowards and fools. This is why they've never done anything meaningful about hate raids. Ever wonder why most LGTBQ+ streamers stopped thanking followers by name, and now only have a generic message that pops up - If that?

Twitch could stop the follow botting. Twitch could ban the one or two users behind the hate raids.

But they don't.
