Back in the early 1980s Suzanne Vega wrote and sang one of her perhaps most famous songs, Tom's Diner. The song had a lasting impact, with numerous remixes, cultural attention - and of course - is widely credited as being "The Mother of the MP3".
Then sometime in the early 1990s, Mark Davis and Marilyn E. Whitelaw wrote a parody of the song themed around I Dream of Jeannie, called Jeannie's Diner, which was later used in the promotion of reruns of IDoJ on Nick At Nite.
This song has permanent residence in my soul. Whenever I think of the song, the original Vega version can't even enter my head. This version is all there is.
