Eternity [Kasumi] (Dead or Alive 3 [2001])
If there’s one word I could use to describe what a lot of VG music in the early 2000s were trying to sound like, it’d be “hip”. And I don’t mean that in a bad sense; electronic sounds and sample usage were becoming increasingly popular across all of media, and in doing so, often focused on a single mood at a time, in hopes that something would stick. Such context makes me appreciate tracks like this that much more, where I’m taken through a journey of strong moods that intertwine phenomenally well!
Said moods are highlighted through the instruments used here, the most obvious being the Piano of elegance, underlined by the Drums of constant motion, slow Synth Strings of tranquility, Aerophone of melancholy, and of course the Bass and Electric Guitar which share a triumphant mood, with all moods further supplemented by various other electronic sounds throughout the track.
Its also been forever since I played this popular fighting game back in the old childhood OG Xbox days, and I remember enjoying it so much that I put a bunch of hours into both its demo and the full game. Although I should inform you, if you plan to play this game later down the line, make sure it’s the European or Japanese versions, because they feature more content and improvements, as many fighting game rereleases tended to, especially in the 90s
