Niche Games Enjoyer

Average person in their 20s. View Backloggd for my taste in games. I swear it's really good! And to clear up confusion, when I say "PMD", it always refers to "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon", which is another series I love!

Play Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Freedom Planet 2! And Solatorobo, and PMD: Gates to Infinity; those games have been shaping my preferences considerably!

SPOILERS FOR GAMES 2+ YEARS OLD!

That first link shown above, is where you can find the thousands of 3DS Pokemon Mystery Dungeon portraits I sorted with the help of Emmett Eon; very good stuff!

"At Eevee on Cohost Dot Org scolding people about being free advertising for corpo media" is symptom number 1 that the Twitter Discourse disease is inside the house and we simply cannot let it spread Cohost lol

There's a huge difference between well meaning debate and a Twitter vet knowing the recipe by memory on how to Main Character themselves and ya'll have GOT to get smarter! Don't let ppl turn this website into Another One, I'm actually happy hanging out here lol

in reply to @lnc0's post:

I think that's a sightly uncharitable way to interpret her post tbh; more likely I think she was just frustrated and venting?

But yeah the whole thing was really pointed and it started everyone off on the wrong foot. So of course it inevitably turned into a giant thread of people talking past each other and quibbling about minor semantic technicalities. I hoped for better from people here.

when you trip at the starting line it's hard to keep running, imo. i can't blame anyone, it's just a very unfamiliar aire of "controversial post that shouldn't be controversial"

i hope this site has the self awareness to either stamp it out or let it fester alone. i don't want a site where this becomes commonplace, and that's what i'm really afraid of. the toxic sludge of social media and it's antisocial consequences seeping into places it doesn't belong

Oh yeah, it's certainly not a good start. I think if your goal is to actually convince people of something then coming out of the gate that strong is not gonna go over well.

That said I suspect some degree of backlash was inevitable; no matter how softly you word it some people are going to take it as an attack on their character if you critique their consumption in any way. A lot of people missed the nuanced point (piracy can't be a net good because you're still continuing to corporate mindshare) and instead read it as "using Photoshop/watching Disney makes you a bad person."

@gnar's post on this is also pretty good; I recommend it.

that's probably a good point. gonna block tbh

i am not very familiar with actual Twitter shit (i used it for art and things and did my hardest to stay away from All That Shit) but you can just feel the Twitter seeping off of it. i do not want anything like that in any space i reside in. i would rather bail.

gotta be honest, seeing people refer to a perhaps mildly energetic description of a take as "scolding" and making posts about how "we have to avoid the bad people who know exactly what they're doing" seems far worse of a disease than the original post ever could be
