Apple's app storefront on iOS is going to be causing all new subscribers specifically from the iOS store to be charged 30% extra starting in November of this year. From this, it is advisable to share this with you if you are an artist yourself on Patreon or you know someone who does use it / is a person you subscribe to, let them be aware of this if they already aren't. The fact Patreon is bending over to this change and not implementing a web based circumvention in the app itself or just pulling the app from iOS to instead force this on every person who uses Patreon for their livelihood is such a dumb decision I don't think I could think of why this is a smart business move from them.

Not only is this part of the main issue with the 30% fee for only new subscribers in the iOS app, by Nov 2025 you will ALL be forced into the subscription fee model even if you do not already. I don't know about y'all, but I still use the first of the month payment because having payments be random through the month with subscriptions is really not helpful in the case of say having to pay bills or groceries or rent, etc. This is the biggest hurdle for me that will hurt me and others in the longrun that I don't even know if I should stick by Patreon anymore as a platform and turn somewhere else. But even if I do, where??? This decision fucking sucks man. I really cannot stand any of this.
