Niche Games Enjoyer

Average person in their 20s. View Backloggd for my taste in games. I swear it's really good! And to clear up confusion, when I say "PMD", it always refers to "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon", which is another series I love!

Play Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Freedom Planet 2! And Solatorobo, and PMD: Gates to Infinity; those games have been shaping my preferences considerably!

SPOILERS FOR GAMES 2+ YEARS OLD!

That first link shown above, is where you can find the thousands of 3DS Pokemon Mystery Dungeon portraits I sorted with the help of Emmett Eon; very good stuff!

Pillars of Creation (Tower of Heaven [2009]) & Luna Ascension (Tower of Heaven; Luna Ascension EX version [Rivals of Aether] [2017])

[Will insert description here later; my apologies for not being able to finish this list in time without cutting corners a little]

(Length before loop [Pillars of Creation]: 1+ minutes, [Luna Ascension EX]: 2+ minutes)

Hockey Man (Rokko Chan [Fangame, 2011]) & hockey man stage, arranged by Videogame Orchestra [2012] & hockey man stage, chipped by Asagen [2012] (Both in the Rokko Chan Arranged albums)

Don’t let the goofy track name fool you, this is an 8-bit-style masterpiece worth listening to! Mega Man is a franchise also known for its melancholy ice-themed stage music, and with so many to choose from, I went with one from a game based on the franchise, but not necessarily associated with it.

The Arranged version is a nice take on it, sure, but the Chiptune version from the same composer as the original makes this already emotional track a top favorite of mine, full blast! Best part is, the game itself has been a free flash game on browsers ever since release, so what better time to encourage you to give it a try than now?

(Length before loop [Original]: Nearly 1.5 minutes, [Arranged]: 2.5+ minutes, [Chipped]: 3.5+ minutes)

Glorious Morning (Used in the Age of War flash games and Castle Crashers, among various others [2007/2008])

Ready for more flash game nostalgia? I sure am, and this one’s heck of a lot more popular than the previously-featured Stormwinds (They’re both good games, free of charge, maybe experience them in your free time with all the archive programs made to support flash after its support ended. Same for Gemcraft, now’s a good excuse to mention that tower defense highlight too)!

Maybe it was wrong for me to be subjected to this game at such an early age, given the featured brutality, but man, if this composition didn’t make out such a simple yet fun game to be far more epic than it had any right to be. As many will tell you, the mix of beautiful Strings, Flutes, and small nature sounds (Mainly bird chirping and what seems to be a river flow) preceding the action-packed “combat” sections underlined by a constantly rolling “marching” Drum, is nothing short of… wait, I’ve used the phrase “nothing short of” far too many times now, time to come up with something less repetitive… it’s an impressively addictive combination, accumulating into an uplifting battle, and a sincere example of what it means to be iconic!

(Length: Nearly 2 minutes)
