Niche Games Enjoyer

Average person in their 20s. View Backloggd for my taste in games. I swear it's really good! And to clear up confusion, when I say "PMD", it always refers to "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon", which is another series I love!

Play Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Freedom Planet 2! And Solatorobo, and PMD: Gates to Infinity; those games have been shaping my preferences considerably!

SPOILERS FOR GAMES 2+ YEARS OLD!

That first link shown above, is where you can find the thousands of 3DS Pokemon Mystery Dungeon portraits I sorted with the help of Emmett Eon; very good stuff!

in no particular order. not top games, just games to know my tastes.
just 25 of them. there's more that couldn't be listed because obviously that'd number would then be over 25.
(edit: if I decided to go over 25, Sin and Punishment Star Successor and some sort of Sega Super Scaler game or racing game would be on there)

Yes Sin and Punishment Star Successor and a Sega Super Scaler game and a racing game are on there!

God, this is such a mess, albeit one I put a lot of thought into. Instead of going for a "Top 25", I dedicated this list to above average games that shaped my general tastes in gameplay, world settings, etc.; something you can use as reference for the kind of media I tend to lean towards, even those not related to video games.

Basically, all of the games listed here have their own place in defining my tastes in some shape or form, which is also why I didn't list more than one games per series, an exception made for PMD, cuz it really did hold an impactful significance for me twice, for different reasons both times. In that sense, these are quite literally games to "know me".

For example, you can see Stormwinds right there as both my personal introduction to steampunk, as well as the lovely late 2000s flash games era that most of us probably have a soft spot for. One more example, Opoona's master class in that Synth-Extraterrestial aesthetic I go back to from time to time, even if I have a feeling the game itself won't age well upon me revisiting it; the significance in that area is eternal, that last part goes for the other games listed here too!

Since this is Cohost, you can easily find more non-spoiler details about what I like about some of these games through one of my pinned messages. Got any memorable games you'd like to share? ;)

(And before anyone asks, World of Warcraft is as in, before it went downhill; I'm well aware of its problems these days)

Old Generation Area (Mega Man Network Transmission [2003])

A slower, heavier melody mixed between futuristic sounds and simple yet well-timed percussion, just like the music and in-game area suggests. There’s always this image in my mind, like I’m about to open some giant door to some secret place whenever I play this stand-out track, an image no doubt influenced by the aforementioned heavy melody.

While the game is mediocrity incarnate, the music is truly something special, and deserves a listen for the whole thing, not just this one track. I had a hard time choosing which favorite to use, and ultimately chose the one that sounded the least like the other games featured in this list, which while doesn’t reflect my most favorite of them, brings some much-needed variety to the list; it’s a dilemma I have to deal with for every pick on the list, I hope you can appreciate the time and effort that went into it all, as little attention as it gets!
