My quick and dirty webring is working fine and there's a bunch of people on it now.
It's neat that there's a bunch of efforts going on in this space. Here's some reasons to go with mine specifically:
- Doesn't require putting untrusted javascript on your own website
- It also keeps up with members' sites via RSS and shows the most recent posts from across the webring on the main site
- Eventually I'll add in support for avatar images and maybe make the site for the webring itself a lot fancier? (Right now I'm just using a default boring-ass theme but if you're savvy with HTML/CSS/Jekyll you can help work on the site too)
Reasons not to go with mine:
- I am very tired
- I tend to overcommit to stuff before burning out on it
Hey y'all, just as a reminder, if you've signed up for the webring, it only works if you actually include the webring links to keep the ring going. Please remember to
- List your site as one that you can put arbitrary HTML onto (so that you can add the webring links)
- Add the webring links
I'm not going to be super strict about it, but please remember what the point to a webring is before joining it.
